You star Penn Badgley has weighed in on the prospect of Jenna Ortega making an appearance in the show’s next season – and it looks like it’s bad news for fans.

Speaking to Metro, Badgley revealed he thinks it’ll be unlikely for Ortega to reprise her role as Ellie Alves, following the immense success of Wednesday.

“Oh man… I mean the truth is they [Netflix] would have to pay up. She’s got that Wednesday money now,” he said.

“You got to talk to Netflix.”

However Badgley went on to add that he would be happy to see Ortega back on the show, should schedules work out.

“That would be great obviously, that would be so amazing. I don’t know that it’s going to happen. We’ll see,” he said.

Last month, showrunner Sera Gamble revealed that Ortega was meant to be returning for the new season but was ultimately busy with filming on The Addams Family spin-off. “We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, ‘Oh, Jenna is doing some show’,” she told IndieWire.

The actress later revealed that she had been “devastated” to miss out on filming, adding that she was wanted to revisit the character for a “long time.”

“I was so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday,” Ortega told Entertainment Tonight.

“I couldn’t travel back and forth with the pandemic and everything like that, and when you’re committed to a show there’s just no way that it could’ve worked out.”

You seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix.
