The wait is almost over — the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday will conclude in just one week. Before Jenna Ortega returns to lead the final four episodes, Netflix has dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette teasing what’s still to come.
In the clip, Ortega is joined by co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as Tim Burton and Gwendoline Christie, to tease the massive scale of the final chapter. “Everything is bigger” and “everyone is a suspect,” they warn, hinting that the mystery at Nevermore Academy is about to hit its peak.
The featurette also follows up on one of the biggest surprises from the latest trailer: the shocking return of Gwendoline Christie’s Principal Larissa Weems. The character sacrificed herself in Season 1 to save Nevermore, but she’s back in Season 2, Part 2 — this time as Wednesday’s spirit guide after her brutal fall at the midseason finale.
The Mystery Deepens at Nevermore
At its core, Wednesday has always played like a murder mystery, and Gough and Millar confirm they’ve doubled down on that approach. The final episodes appear to be building toward a grand masquerade, where the secrets of Nevermore will finally unravel.
Among the masked crowd are some familiar faces — Steve Buscemi as Principal Barry Dort, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán returning as Morticia and Gomez, and Joanna Lumley as Wednesday’s grandmother, Hester Frump.
Gwendoline Christie’s Return
Enid Sinclair’s (Emma Meyers) fate continues to hang in the balance, and Wednesday feels responsible for her friend’s possible demise. On top of that, her psychic abilities have been unstable throughout the season, straining her relationship with her mother, Morticia. Much of this tension stems from Wednesday’s reliance on a grimoire passed down from her ancestor and former spirit guide, Goody Addams.
But Part 2 changes everything with the arrival of Christie’s Weems as Wednesday’s new guide — a twist that wasn’t originally planned. According to Millar and Gough, the decision came from how much fans, and Ortega herself, loved the dynamic between the two characters.
Ortega explained in an interview with AICHARK on TikTok how the idea developed:
“We had had discussions at the end of Season 1 about – we already knew that we were gonna kill her. So we were saying, ‘Oh man, well, this has been a terrible mistake on our part. How are we gonna undo this? Is there a way we could bring her back?’ I would say, ‘Well, she’s a shapeshifter. Maybe she isn’t dead. Maybe all the shapeshifters, their natural form is [Weems]. Maybe if they all reverted back to their initial state…’ That’s what I wanted. We were throwing out all these ideas, and then the writers came up with her being my spirit guide.”
With Weems returning in this new form, Wednesday’s abilities may finally begin to stabilize — and that could be the key to saving Enid before it’s too late.
Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 premieres on September 3.
