Empire star Tasha Smith has been cast in the upcoming Bad Boys 4.
The For Better or Worse star will take on the role of Theresa, the wife of Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), Variety reports.
She will replace Theresa Randle, who held the role for the previous three Bad Boys films, including the first instalment in 1995.
Details of the plot for the fourth film are being kept tightly under wraps, though we do know Grey’s Anatomy actor Eric Dane will feature as the film’s villain.
Fantastic Four and Forever actor Ioan Gruffudd will also appear in an undisclosed role.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will reprise their roles as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, alongside Paola Núnez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Alexander Ludwig.
Filming for Bad Boys 4 began in April 2023, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returning to direct.
Smith and Lawrence have shared their excitement to be making the film, kicking off this year’s CinemaCon with a message to attendees.
“We’re hype, we’re excited,” Smith said before Lawrence apologised that the pair could not be there due to filming the buddy cop flick.
The film will serve as a comeback for Will Smith after his 2022 Oscars slap controversy.
The fourth film in the franchise was announced in 2020, with many speculating the Oscars slap was the reason production was put on hold.
However, Sony chairman Tom Rothman stated that wasn’t the reason why Bad Boys 4 has been so long in the making.
“There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving. That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person,” he told Deadline last year.
