Blood of My Blood actor Jamie Roy has candidly talked about his surprise when he first met Outlander legend Sam Heughan.
Blood of My Blood is now releasing new episodes every Saturday on MGM+, following the remarkable love stories of Jamie Fraser’s (played by Sam Heughan) parents Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater, and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) mum and dad Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield).
To mark its eagerly anticipated debut, the leading cast gathered for its official London screening, followed by a Q&A where Roy spoke of what surprised him about Heughan.
“From the get-go, we had a phone call which was great, 20 minutes before we started shooting and we just talked about some stuff and he was so excited about it,” Roy explained.
“And then we met for a coffee about halfway through shooting and up until this point, so many people had said to me ‘Oh you and Sam are so alike’ and I’m like ‘yeah, yeah, whatever, heard it.’
“And then I met him, and we sat across from each other and there was a point in the conversation where we were both stopped talking and looked at each other kind of like ‘What the f***? We’re exactly the same.’”
Their bond quickly proved to go far beyond their work in the Outlander universe though.
He shared: “We talked about work for like five minutes and just started talking about Scottish things like mountains and whiskey and mountains.
“His support throughout this whole thing has been amazing. He came out to the premiere which was so lovely to see.”
“And he had never seen any of the episodes before, so him seeing that for the first time with the fans is something he said he wanted. To watch it with the fans as a fan, I thought was just a class act.
“We are very happy to have him in our corner.”
There has been no confirmation so far on whether or not either Heughan or Balfe are going to feature in Blood of My Blood at some point.
The prequel has already been green lit for a second season though and given that an important element of the show is time travel, this could provide the opportunity for the original stars to make an appearance at some point.
