Caitríona Balfe detailed how she’s doing after stepping off the Outlander set, reflecting on what the show and her cast members gave to her as well as praising fellow Irish actors she adores
Caitríona Balfe, who has portrayed Claire Fraser on Outlander for over a decade, spoke about her emotional farewell to the show after wrapping up its final season last year.
The Co Monaghan actress confessed her sadness at not donning her Claire costume again while speaking on the IFTA red carpet.
“I learnt everything on that show. My resumé before I got that show, and 11 years later, I feel like it’s just stretched me in just so many different ways,” she shared. She praised the genre for its diversity, allowing her to explore romance, action, drama and comedy.
Balfe got all sentimental with her followers as she took off her Claire Fraser wig for the last time. The star posted a heartfelt video on Instagram, saying her goodbyes to the beloved character just before Season 7 Part 2 hits our screens. Balfe captioned the behind-the-scenes moment: “Sing me a song of a wig that is gone.”
In the touching video, Balfe, surrounded by her glam squad, was asked about her humorous identity without her wig, she replied: “I don’t even know anymore.”
Despite feeling grateful for the experience, she admitted to still feeling a bit melancholic about its conclusion. Balfe, a prominent figure in Irish cinema, has starred in critically acclaimed films such as Ford v Ferrari and Belfast, reports VIP Magazine.
She expressed her admiration for the thriving Irish talent worldwide. “The Irish industry is one of the most exhilarating ones in the world. There are just Irish people everywhere. It’s great! There’s so much incredible film and TV coming out of Ireland at the moment. It’s amazing to see how many of our actors are doing incredible things on the world stage as well,” she gushed.
When asked about her current favorites, she revealed: “I’m a huge Bad Sisters fan. I feel like I’m the only Irish actress who hasn’t been in it. The girls [Lola Petticrew and Hazel Doupe] who were in Say Nothing were just incredible. And ,of course, small up-and-coming actor Paul Mescal.”
