We have some amazing news to share with fans of The Night Agent about The Night Agent season 2!
The Netflix original series premiered on Netflix on Thursday, March 23, 2023, and it’s already the biggest Netflix new release of the year so far. Over its opening weekend, fans watched more than 168 million hours of The Night Agent on Netflix. That’s 6 million more than Ginny and Georgia season 2 and almost 20 million more hours than Outer Banks season 3.
The Night Agent is based on the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk.
We shared everything we know so far about The Night Agent season 2 below. We’ll share more updates for the new season as we learn more.
The Night Agent season 2 is happening
Netflix renewed The Night Agent for season 2 six days after the series premiered! That’s a quick renewal, especially considering it took several months for Netflix to renew Wednesday, which is officially the biggest Netflix show of 2022 and the third biggest opening for a Netflix show of all time.
The Night Agent wasn’t quite as big as Wednesday, but it’s on pace to be one of the top 10 Netflix releases of all time.
Shawn Ryan, the creator and executive producer of The Night Agent, shared his thoughts on the renewal, via Netflix:
“The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world. To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.”
Has Netflix announced The Night Agent season 2 release date?
Unfortunately, no, Netflix has not announced The Night Agent season 2 release date yet. We literally just got the renewal announcement, so it’s going to be quite a long time until we see The Night Agent season 2.
Netflix confirmed The Night Agent season 2 is coming sometime in 2024.

We also know that no one has started working on The Night Agent season 2 yet, though. Ryan told Deadline that they had not formed the writers room for season 2 because the season was not picked up. We shared what he told Deadline below:
Listen, until there is a Season 2 picked up, the writers and I aren’t getting paid to figure that out until it becomes official in some way. I certainly have some ideas; I probably want to keep those to myself until the time comes. What I will tell you is that the initial pitch for this show that we sold to Netflix was that each season would tell its own, mostly self-enclosed, a beginning, middle and end story, and any future seasons would include a few but not most of the characters that we saw in the previous season.
That’s obviously not good for an early release date for season 2. At this time, it’s too hard to predict a specific month for release, but we have to imagine that the writers room will be formed soon, if it hasn’t been already, and then they can get to work on the new season.
The good thing about The Night Agent is that we don’t anticipate it would take a long time to film season 2. Obviously, it depends on what happens in the season, but I think there’s a really good chance that we see the second season on Netflix in the spring of 2024.
Usually, it takes about a year between when work starts on a new season and when it’s released on Netflix, at minimum. That wait can get a lot longer depending on a few things, but for the most part, that should be enough time.
Release Prediction: Spring 2024
The Night Agent season 2 cast
The Night Agent season 2 cast has not been announced yet, but we do have a good idea who will be involved in the new season. Unfortunately, it’s probably not exactly what people who loved the first season want to hear.
Gabriel Basso will definitely be back as Peter Sutherland. He’s the lead, and he’s set for an even bigger role in season 2.
We’re also expecting that we’ll see Luciane Buchanan and Fola Evans-Akingbola back in season 2. There’s a chance that they might not be involved, but they were big enough characters in the first season, it’d be a shame if the story moved away from these great characters.
Ryan also mentioned to Deadline that most of the cast for a second season would be different.
If we are successful enough that Netflix wants more seasons, I think there’d be a whole new world in which you would see a limited number of characters from this current season going into that. But that’s something that I’d have to sit down with the writers and have it all figured out.
We’ll share the cast when we find out.
The Night Agent season 2 episode count
Netflix announced that The Night Agent season 2 will also have 10 episodes. The first season of the series consisted of 10 episodes.
The Night Agent season 1 ending explained
At the end of the first season of The Night Agent, Peter, Rose, and Agent Arrington stop the attack on the President at Camp David. The Vice President is taken into custody, as is Diane Farr. We have to assume that they won’t be involved in future episodes after the fallout from the Metro bombing and assassination attempt.
We also see Gordon Wick, the mysterious CEO, flee. He could be a big part of future seasons.
At the very end of the season, Peter becomes a Night Agent! Well, that’s what we assume. He reads a document that reads: “Night Action: Mission Brief,” and then takes off on a jet. Peter is a full-on spy now!
Is there a second Night Agent book?
Unfortunately, there’s only one Night Agent book by Matthew Quirk. While there’s no second book now, I would assume that might change in the near future. This was a huge commercial success. I think people would be very interested in this story continuing in print.
What’s next in The Night Agent season 2?
To assume we know what’s going to happen in The Night Agent season 2 would be a mistake. It looks like the writers have a lot of room to play with this story and can move in any direction.
Overall, I’m thinking Peter’s story is going to continue as a Night Agent, and he’ll be looking to take down corrupt officials and high-profile criminals and companies around the world.
There’s a lot we still don’t know about the Night Action program. We know about a few agents, including Rose’s aunt and uncle. I think we’re going to learn a lot about the program what the official mission of the program is and how Peter can help.
We should also see Chelsea Arrington and Rose continue their careers after saving the country. Are Peter and Rose still together romantically? Could she be a spy in the future like her aunt and uncle? We’ll just have to wait and see!
That’s all we know about The Night Agent season 2 so far. The series is on the list of the best shows on Netflix right now. Stay tuned for more news about season 2.
