Jensen Ackles is one of the most highly requested actors to play the next live-action Batman in the DCU. At a recent convention, Ackles responded to the rumors humorously and drew laughter from the crowd.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of the DCU, and with that come rumors about who will play the next Superman and Batman. The first Batman film in the DCU will be called Batman: The Brave and The Bold and will focus on Bruce Wayne meeting his son Damian. Many fans want Ackles to play Batman in this film.

Ackles spoke recently at a fan event about his desire to play Batman in the DCU. HomeofDCU’s clip makes it clear Ackles wants to play Batman. “Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time?… I would love it. Sign me up.” Additionally, Ackles joked that the role will probably go to Pedro Pascal. “Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro. You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something.”

Ackles also noted the ongoing writers’ strike and how production on everything has halted. “There’s a strike going on in the entertainment industry, and until that gets solved, nobody is having conversations about anything.” According to Ackle, no one from DC Studios has talked to him about the role, but he would love to do it. However, he also said, “Even if I knew. I wouldn’t tell you.”

It should be noted that Ackles has played DC characters in their animated movies. He voiced Jason Todd in Batman: Under the Red Hood. Additionally, he voiced Batman in the Batman: The Long Halloween movies and Legion of Super-Heroes. Ackles voices Batman again in the upcoming DC animated film Justice League: Warworld.

In recent animated films, Ackles has proven to be a great voice for Batman. With his work on The Boys playing a live-action superhero, there is no question why people think he should play the role. But Gunn has a specific vision for these movies, and it is unclear what Batman he will want for the film. Additionally, if The Flash reset the DCEU and the ending of that film is supposed to set up the DCU, they may already have their Batman.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is in development at DC Studios.
