The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco has explained why her upcoming show The Flight Attendant is the perfect follow-up to the long-running sitcom.
During a CTAM digital panel for the show on August 5, the TV star described her character as having “a roller coaster of issues but a heart of gold” and noted that she loved the project’s unique blend of comedy and tragedy.
“I love making people laugh,” she said. “I thought if we could find the right team and bring some levity to such a dark book that it could be kind of cool.”
Elsewhere, Cuoco recalled how she got involved in the project and how desperate she was to read more of Chris Bohjalian’s 2018 novel – on which the series is based – after reading just “one little snippet” of it on Amazon.
“It just was one sentence, and I got like this weird chill,” she remembered (via TV Guide). “I called my team and said, ‘Hey, I’d love to look at the rest of this book’, and their first question was, ‘OK, you read the book, you love the book’.
“I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I totally read the book’. I had not read the book. But something had told me that I needed to jump on that.”
The Flight Attendant follows cabin crew staff member Cassandra Bowden (Cuoco) after she wakes up next to a dead body in a hotel in Dubai – and due to the night prior being one of heavy-drinking, she can’t recall what happened.
Once back in New York, Cassandra is confronted by FBI agents who question her recent layover. Terrified about what she might find out about herself, will she be able to piece together the truth in time?
Grey’s Anatomy star TR Knight, Sons of Anarchy’s Merle Dandridge, Glee’s Nolan Gerard Funk, Girls’ Zosia Mamet and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actor Michelle Gomez round out the cast.
