Production of Lucifer season 6 is underway, but followers were disappointed to discover the next instalment will be its last. However, there is already a petition for Netflix to extend the show’s final season to give viewers the grand finale they deserve.

Since airing its first season on Fox back in 2016, Lucifer has gradually become one of the most popular dramas on TV.

Following its sudden cancellation after just three seasons, Netflix stepped in and Lucifer’s follow-ups became surprise hits for the streaming service.

During the ongoing wait for the second half of season five, fans have already begun the speculation for the series forthcoming sixth and final outing.

Production is underway with strict coronavirus measures in place, but it’s hoped season five, part two will hit Netflix soon, with season six not too far behind.

Unfortunately, season six’s planned episode run could leave plenty of fans disappointed when the show’s highly anticipated last hurrah is finally released.

According to star Tom Ellis, season six has so far only been confirmed for ten episodes.

Tallying up the show’s unconventional episode orders to date, and that brings the adventures of Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) up to a grand total of 93.

Although the series started life with 13 episodes in its first season, as the stories grew more complex and the show more popular the number of episodes eventually increased.

However, with either a potential new hit or disastrous flop on their hands, Netflix only revived the series for ten episodes in season four.

Despite bumping the new outing back up to 16 after the huge success of season four, Lucifer’s final round of Biblical adventures is only confirmed for ten episodes.

As this is so close to the 100 mark, the show’s more zealous fans have begun lobbying Netflix to renew Lucifer season six for an additional seven episodes.

Moreover, some hints from co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have revived discussions that could be possible in the near future.

When queried about season six, Henderson said: “We’re not allowed to answer our episode order yet.”

While Ildy Modrovich fuelled rumours by adding: “It’s a very good question. Conversations have been had.”

The speculation started by the show’s studio, Warner Bros. Television, which has had the tendency in recent years to end a number of series with their 100th episode.

Modrovich agreed Warner Bros. were taking the issue seriously, assuring some fans there could be an announcement further down the line.

However, as filming for season six has only just started, Netflix may need to gauge the reaction to the last eight episodes of season five before giving the go ahead on a longer final instalment.

As the wait for more Lucifer continues, fans haven’t stopped being vocal about their love of the series and have remained hopeful the romantic fantasy series gets the episode order it deserves.

Over on Reddit, one viewer pleaded: “They really should bring it up to 100 episodes. It’s so close. Too close to just not do it, in my opinion.”

While another fan warned: “Tom Ellis says season six will have ten episodes, but with as many changes to episode counts as we’ve seen for season five and coronavirus concerns who knows if this will turn out to be true.”

Ellis and the team will be masking up and testing on the set of Lucifer season six, but the current uncertainty could mean shooting an additional seven episodes is too risky.
