Lucifer showrunners confirms ‘whole new character’ for final season

Lucifer showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have been teasing what’s to come in the Biblical drama’s epic sixth and final season on Netflix.

Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) may have become God in the finale of Lucifer’s fifth season, but he still has a long way to go before he gets his happy ending with the beautiful detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). Ahead of the Netflix series’ return, the head writers have opened up about some new additions to the cast.

Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have revealed more about the upcoming sixth and final season of the wildly popular Netflix series, Lucifer.

The sensational Biblical drama will pick up right where this year’s second half of season five left off, with the devil taking over Heavenly duties from his father, God (Dennis Haysbert).

However, diehard ‘Lucifans’ already know the series was originally intended to end there.

Following a wave of support from viewers, Netflix decided to grant Lucifer one final instalment to wrap up the series with a satisfying conclusion.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but the co-showrunners recently spoke to TV Line about what the upcoming outing might entail.

After the dust had settled on the season five finale, they could confirm that season six features a completely new story, rather than just an extension of the latest instalment.

Henderson explained: “It is very much our goodbye season, but as we started to dig into Season 6, we found a new story we wouldn’t have told before.”

Therefore, just as season five featured new villains such as Lucifer’s devious twin brother Michael, as well as the addition of God, it’s only natural for the next season to add some new friends and enemies into the mix.

TV Line inquired whether season six would feature any characters that were previously left on the cutting room floor.

To which Henderson replied: “Oh, that’s a good one…. There is a new character in 6 that was not going to be a part of Season 5. A whole new character.”

So, it seems at least one character from the world of Lucifer who has not been seen or mentioned before will make their entrance in the final season.

Unfortunately, it’s still not confirmed whether the showrunner is referring to a friend or foe.

Thankfully, some previous casting announcements may have already provided some idea as to who Henderson may be alluding to.

In December 2020, once Lucifer’s surprise renewal had been announced, the series also added newcomers Francine Calfo (Alias) and Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool) to the cast of season six.

Calfo will portray a new LAPD cop who forms a bond with Amenadiel (DB Woodside), whilst Hildebrand is on board as another angel looking to cause some trouble.

As season five concluded with an epic battle against Lucifer and Michael, with several other celestial brothers and sisters looking on, Hildebrand’s character may have been intended to appear in season five.

lternatively, many fans are already predicting the angelic newcomer, Rory, could be the main antagonist of Lucifer season six.

Even so, Modrovich also teased: What happens when Lucifer gets a hold of something that maybe he thought he wanted?

“He’s always his own worst enemy, so it’s not going to be an easy road. Let’s put it that way.”

Will Lucifer have to face off against yet another angelic contender, or will his own inner demons cause the devil enough grief when he tries to fill his father’s footsteps?

Lucifer Season 5, Part 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
