She starred with him in the hit TV series the Big Bang Theory. And now Mayim Bialik has reunited with Jim Parsons for the new Fox sitcom Call Me Kat.
The show is produced by Parsons through his production company and Bialik told UsWeekly that she was ‘totally shocked’ when he approached her about starring in the show.
‘When Jim brought it to me, I thought he was just asking my opinion because we were friends and we have a lot of similar tastes,’ she explained on the Watch With Us podcast Tuesday. She went on: ‘I was like, ‘That sounds great. I totally think that’s a great idea!’ He was like, ‘No, Mayim. I’m telling you about this because I want you to play her.’
‘I was totally shocked that Jim Parsons wanted to still work with me. I think I’m very annoying, but he apparently thinks I’m not as annoying as I think I am, because he wanted to work with me!’
The comedy premiered on Monday night and Bialik plays a 39-year-old single woman who quits her job to open up a cat cafe. The show is based on the successful British comedy Miranda, that was created by and starred actress Miranda Hart and ran on the BBC from 2009 to 2013.
Bialik, who’s 45, is a cat lover herself and was immediately attracted to the role of Kat, whom she describes as ‘a real woman’. ‘This is a show about a woman who I hope other women and men will look at and say, ‘Oh, there’s women like that, and they can be funny, can be quirky’,’ the actress said.
Bialik and Parsons worked together on The Big Bang Theory from 2010 to 2019, alongside co-stars Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch.
