Money Heist fan-favourite criminal Berlin is back and flying solo this time as Netflix has released a first trailer for a spinoff series.

Simply titled Berlin, the upcoming show follows the thief portrayed by Pedro Alonso in a prequel adventure. Set to come to the streamer on December 29, the new series created by Money Heist’s Álex Pina will explore Berlin’s (aka Andrés de Fonollosa) golden age as he prepares for a big heist in Paris.

The newly released trailer shows a dapper Berlin doing crime in the French capital in between some champagne popping, love affairs and lavish parties. But this lifestyle comes with a hefty price tag and Berlin will have to seek the thrill of a big, dangerous heist in order to continue pursuing pleasure.

In pure Money Heist fashion, the extravagant thief can’t do it alone and will enlist the help of a team of savvy fellow criminals. Enter cybersecurity mastermind Keila, academic and Berlin’s close pal Damián, wild card Cameron, locksmith and Berlin’s most faithful sidekick Roi, and weapon expert Bruce.

“Berlin says there are only two things that can turn a bad day into a great one: love and a million-dollar payday,” the show’s logline reads.

“This is what keeps him razor focused on his lofty goals. So he’s preparing one of his most extreme heists yet – disappearing $44 million worth of jewels.”

Alongside Alonso, Berlin is set to star Tristán Ulloa, Begoña Vargas, Michelle Jenner, Julio Peña Fernández and Joel Sánchez.

Introduced in Money Heist season one, Berlin is revealed to be the Professor’s (Álvaro Morte) older brother. Terminally ill, Berlin chooses to sacrifice himself at the end of season 1, part 2 to allow the rest of the gang to escape from the police.

Berlin starts streaming on Netflix on December 29.
