Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has delighted fans after giving them a sneak peek into the tenth book in the Outlander story.

Posting on her social media, the 70-year-old wrote: “By popular demand (more or less)—

“Sometime in September (I think), I posted a short version of this excerpt. In early October, my beloved German translator, Barbara Schnell, asked me if I could give her something to post in honor of Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser Grey Fraser’s 104th birthday. So I sent her the complete excerpt.

“So—a number of English-speaking fans, eager to see the whole thing, translated the German posting on dianagabaldon.de (which is a wonderful site—Baerbel has a number of entertaining innovations, like a complete timeline of all the major events in the books)—and you can translate the site from German to English) back into English. Except that it wasn’t, quite.

“Translations are seldom literal and the literal ones tend not to be very good. So we had a rash of English-speaking fans arguing about whether “ein prust” (in the German version) meant the Scottish noise that Jamie and William make now and then (but which is defined as the coughing growl tigers use to communicate with each other).

“Now I do value my readers’ sanity, so decided to post the entire excerpt (called “Sir”, for convenience). Hope you enjoy it!”

The tweet was followed by an exciting excerpt which included an exchange between Jamie Fraser and William Ransom.

Fans were quick to flock to the comments sharing their excitement for the upcoming novel.

One wrote: “In Jan of 22 I broke my back and neck. Disc’s are dissolving. I live my life now between bed and the wheel chair. I woke up this morning to this great teaser. Thank you Diana for keeping so happy. Lord knows if I will ever re a d.”

Another added: “Thank you Diana for this. It warms my heart to think that maybe William and Jamie will finally form a bond. My heart aches for them both. Can’t wait for book 10. I am re reading all the Outlander books again for the 3rd time. They are like old friends to me and bring me joy.”

With a third chiming: “Ohhhhh, Iove it so much. Jamie and William is my second favourite relationship in the book. It comes right after Jamie and Claire for me”

Book 10 (as yet untitled) will be the tenth major novel in the Outlander series of novels. It will follow Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, the ninth major novel featuring the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser.
