An Outlander executive producer has kept a number of mementos over the years from the show, including Stephen Bonnet’s testicles.
The Starz time travel series has been playing out since 2014, closely following Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) love story throughout the decades.
They have been separated by hundreds of years, wars and vengeful enemies but nothing has been able to get in the way of Jamie and Claire’s relationship for very long and this continues to be the case in the latest outing.
Season seven has been split in two, with part one making its debut in June 2023 and the second half expected in early 2024.
It won’t be too long before it’s time to say goodbye to the period drama for good as there will be just one other series to look forward to.
During its run, executive producer Matthew B Roberts has made sure to keep hold of some key props, some of which may raise an eyebrow or two.
Speaking on the official Outlander podcast, Roberts explained: “I think I said in the first podcast that I have in my office in Scotland just a collection from all the props from season one all the way through to season seven.
“It’s a weird collection, if you ever walked in there you might wonder why I have swords, I have war clubs.
“I also have puppets and astrolabes and Stephen Bonnet’s b******s on a shelf which makes for odd conversation when someone comes to the office for the first time.”
Fans of the long-running series will remember the trauma caused by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), as well as his death.
Bonnet had been wreaking havoc for the Fraser family since he first appeared in season four but it wasn’t until the following series that he truly left his mark.
Not only did he rob Jamie and Claire of their precious gemstones, he raped Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton).
He was later arrested for smuggling tea and brandy and was sentenced to death by drowning which was his greatest fear.
Knowing how frightened he would be to die in such a manner, when Stephen was in the river, Brianna fatally shot him in the head.
Following his death, Stephen’s body was cut up with a jar containing his testicles later seen.
Talking about the kill to Parade, author Diana Gabaldon said: “Brianna isn’t a vindictive woman, though, and she listened to her father when he told her that the only way she could find peace with what had been done to her was to find a way to forgive.
“She meant to do that, going to the jail to tell him about the baby, but it didn’t work quite as she’d expected.
“Now she goes to the river with a rifle in her hands, knowing she’s the only person in the world for whom this death isn’t vengeance, but mercy.”
