Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 finale, “Something Borrowed.”
Outlander: Blood of My Blood wrapped up its first season, but with Season 2 on the horizon, fans are already wondering where the story will take us next. The love stories between Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents continue to captivate, leaving plenty of questions about what’s to come.
It may be too early to know for certain. Blood of My Blood has flipped the script on what fans thought they knew about Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater), as well as Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).
So far, viewers have learned that Claire’s parents, Henry and Julia, didn’t die in the automobile accident she once believed. Instead, the series suggests they were transported through time at the standing stones, just as Claire herself would be. This twist allows for a “crossover of all crossovers,” intertwining their story with the star-crossed loves of Brian and Ellen.
In the finale, “Something Borrowed,” Ellen’s betrothal to Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden) reaches its breaking point. She cannot delay any longer, and when Brian sneaks into Castle Leoch to convince her against the marriage—which is meant to unite Clans MacKenzie and Grant—she agrees to flee with the help of her sister Jocasta (Sadhbh Malin) and Mrs. Fitz (Sally Messham).
The problem? Clan MacKenzie cannot present a bride for Malcolm, as no one knows where Ellen has gone. Quick thinking leads the MacKenzies to broker a deal with Clan Grant and war chief Dougal (Sam Retford) to have Malcolm wed his sister, Maura (Bobby Rainsbury).
Once the deal is in place and festivities are underway, Ellen and Brian attempt their escape, only to encounter a heartbroken Malcolm. The confrontation turns deadly, resulting in Malcolm’s death. Fleeing together, Ellen and Brian accept that their chosen life may be difficult, but worth it. The cliffhanger ending, however, leaves their future uncertain.
Meanwhile, Julia and Henry attempt to return to the future. As they journey to the standing stones, they are pursued by a determined group seemingly led by Arch Bug (Terence Rae). When Henry pushes Julia’s hand onto the stone while she holds their son, the moment threatens to separate them once again—leaving fans with another dramatic Season 1 cliffhanger.
As we await Season 2, here are six key questions we hope to see answered:
Will Brian face consequences for Malcolm’s death?
After killing Malcolm, Brian and Ellen go into hiding. With fiery crosses signaling an oncoming battle, Brian vows to fight. Will this draw him further into jeopardy? Based on Outlander, we know he’ll survive, but the journey promises to be perilous.
Where will Julia travel to?
Henry’s push sends Julia through time with her baby, leaving viewers to wonder where they will end up. Could they be thrown further into the past, or forward into a period beyond Claire or Brianna?
Will Uncle Lamb and baby Claire return?
Season 1 included flashbacks with Henry’s brother, Uncle Lamb (George Kemp), and baby Claire (Mae and Tuesday Roberts). Will they play a bigger role in Season 2? Seeing more of Claire’s childhood could shed light on her future choices.
How will Dougal’s marriage impact Clan MacKenzie?
Dougal’s unpredictable nature has long affected Clan MacKenzie. Will his new wife, Maura, influence his political decisions or temper his actions? Maura could be just the foil needed to keep Dougal on his toes.
Will Season 2 crossover with Outlander’s final season?
Julia’s time-travel cliffhanger opens the door for crossover potential. Could Outlander characters appear in Blood of My Blood, or vice versa, as the final season approaches? Time travel may remain the key to connecting the series.
Will we meet Claire’s brother?
William, Claire’s brother, has sparked debate among fans regarding his identity. Will we finally meet him in Outlander’s final season, or could he appear in Blood of My Blood? His introduction could reshape our understanding of the story.
What role will Arch Bug play?
Though a minor villain in Outlander’s seventh season, Arch Bug seems more menacing in Blood of My Blood, pursuing Henry after Malcolm’s death. With the patriarch of Clan Grant gone, what drives Arch Bug’s actions? His motivations may define the next season’s conflicts.
Season 2 promises to answer these questions and more, keeping fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Blood of My Blood.
