Jensen Ackles Breaks Silence on Countdown Cancelation: “It’s a Bummer”

Jensen Ackles is opening up about the cancelation of his Prime Video series Countdown.

The 47-year-old actor, who led the cast as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, shared his reaction after it was officially announced that the show will not return for a second season.

In a new Instagram video, Ackles addressed the news and reflected on his experience filming the series, which ended its first season on a cliffhanger.

“As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season,” Jensen shared. “Amazon’s gonna let it go, and it’s a bummer because I had such an amazing time making that show. Had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew.”

He went on to thank Amazon “for giving us the opportunity,” while also giving credit to the show’s creator, writer, and executive team for their work on the project.

“Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately it’s out of your hands,” he added. “That’s the way it goes in this industry.”

Jensen wrapped up his message with a note of gratitude and optimism, saying he’s “thankful for the experience,” and adding, “We’ll see you down the road on something else, I guess.”

Just a month earlier, the actor had expressed hope that Countdown would continue, telling Variety that “it would suck” if the story ended with the season finale cliffhanger.

“I think it was a smart writer choice to kind of wrap up the Season 1 storyline with three episodes to go. It gave Derek [Haas, creator and writer] an opportunity to start building towards a next big case and a next big sendoff, and it obviously leaves Season 1 ending on a huge cliffhanger,” he explained. “I think it was designed to lead into Season 2, so fingers crossed Amazon is still liking what they’re seeing, and the audience participation and the critics talking about it give us enough firepower to continue that story and see where this goes. Obviously, it would suck if it just ends there!”

While Countdown won’t move forward, fans will still be seeing plenty of Jensen Ackles on screen.

The actor is set to reprise his role in the upcoming third season of Tracker. He’ll also appear in the fifth and final season of The Boys and its new spinoff Vought Rising, which centers on his character from the original series and is currently filming.
