Outlander fans know Jamie Fraser has had his fair share of war wounds throughout the Starz series.
With the Droughtlander now in full force and the second half of season seven not landing until 2024, many Outlander fans are re-visiting the previous seasons and novels by Diana Gabaldon.
Some may have noticed a big change between the Outlander midseason finale and the seventh novel An Echo in the Bone.
In the show, Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) sustained quite a few injuries during the first Battle of Saratoga.
He even hurt his hand with his wife Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) having to stitch him up.
After coming close to death once again, Jamie was mended by Claire’s impressive medical knowledge from the 20th century with his hand as good as new in the series.
How did Jamie Fraser lose his finger in Outlander?
In An Echo in The Bone, things took a more sinister turn for Jamie and the Highlander had to have his finger amputated by Claire.
Jamie’s hand sustained a particularly nasty wound with one digit pretty much destroyed, hence the need to remove it.
The extreme measure may have been left out of the show for the ease of continuity purposes.
There have been other characters who have had some big amputations including Ian Murray (Steven Cree), who lost a leg when he and Jamie went to fight in France.
Moreover, Fergus Fraser (César Domboy) lost a hand when a cruel and evil Redcoat soldier chopped it off when he was just a child.
Jamie, too, had his back permanently scarred after Captain Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) permanently scarred him with a vicious and sustaining whipping.
Captain Black Jack also tortured Jamie at Wentworth Prison until Claire managed to save her husband.
Outlander viewers were reminded of Jamie’s back wounds after Colonel Daniel Morgan (Barry O’Connor) displayed his own scarred back and told them about his dealings with the English.
When Claire asked whether Morgan was aware of Jamie’s own scars, the Highlander said the colonel probably sensed the two men were kin of the flesh.
Outlander season 7, part 2 will premiere on Starz and Lionsgate+ in 2024
