As the plot of Outlander barrels toward the American Revolutionary War, the time-traveler’s dilemma of knowing what will happen next, and yet, not really being able to change it, continues to weigh heavily on Brianna.
And a new sneak peek of this Sunday’s episode, shared exclusively on T&C, shows how she’s wrestling with the knowledge what happens to the Cherokee people decades after the war.
In the clip above, Jamie (played as always by actor Sam Heughan) approaches a melancholy Brianna (Sophie Skelton), asking her, “What’s wrong?”
“It wont be enough to save them,” she replies before launching into an explanation of the forced removal of Native American people from their homes. (If you recall, at the very end of last week’s episode, Jamie’s request for guns for the Cherokee people was approved by the British army.)
“About 60 years from now, the government will force the Cherokee off their land. They’ll move them a thousand miles from here.”
Jamie responds, “I ken well what governments are capable of.”
“8,000 of them will die,” Brianna continues. “They’ll call it the trail of tears. I don’t know. I just—it didn’t seem right to know and not tell you.”
