Endeavour star Sara Vickers has joined the cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Comprising 10 episodes, the Outlander prequel will go further back in time to explore the relationship between Jamie Fraser’s parents and Claire Randall’s parents, across two time periods. Production on the season is now underway in Scotland.
According to Deadline, Vickers will play the role of Davina Porter, a housekeeper in the Lovat household and mother to Brian Fraser (who was played by Andrew Whipp in the original series).
As well as Vickers, the series has also welcomed Time’s Brian McCardie, Karen Pirie’s Jhon Lumsden and Ozark’s Peter Mullan to the cast.
McCardie will star as Isaac, the leader of Clan Grant. Lumsden will play his son Malcolm, who is a potential suitor for Ellen MacKenzie, while Mullan will be Red Jacob Mackenzie, Laird of Clan MacKenzie and Ellen’s father.
The new additions will join the show’s four leads Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest), Hermoine Corfield (The Road Dance) and Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again).
Inland’s Rory Alexander, Ackley Bridge’s Sam Retford, Payback’s Séamus McLean Ross and The Tourist’s Conor MacNeill will also feature in the series.
The prequel will see Outlander book series author Diana Gabaldon serve as consulting producer, with the main show’s executive producer and writer Matthew B Roberts becoming showrunner.
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” said Roberts in a statement. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
Outlander’s seventh season premiered in June 2023. Following its eventful midseason finale, the drama’s remaining episodes will debut in November — ahead of its eighth and final season.
