Hot on the heels of his King James role in Sky’s Mary & George, Tony Curran is sticking to a royal theme.
Speaking to Daily Express at the series’ premiere in London last month, the actor celebrated going back to his Scottish roots for two roles back-to-back as he prepares to start filming Outlander: Blood of My Blood this Spring.
The 54-year-old shared: “So I’m in 1605 then going forward to 1714, another wig, (back to) beardless”.
Tony had already been delving into the research for his role as Lord Lovat, revealing a fascinating discovery that had caught his eye.
He excitedly added: “It’s definitely interesting playing another historical figure, Lord Lovat, that I found out recently Russell Crowe said he’s related to”.
The Gladiator star, who was born in New Zealand, traced his family lineage on his father’s side back to John Fraser who arrived in the country in 1814 and shared the discovery with fans on X.
That’s not the only close connection Tony found with his upcoming role as he revealed on the star-studded red carpet: “My grandmother was a Fraser”.
With a cheeky grin, he alluded to the spin-off’s title saying: “‘Blood of My Blood’…maybe it’s in my blood somewhat!”
The actor is also seemingly eager to get back into some elaborate costumes as he gushed over the wardrobe department for Mary & George, revealing that he had been allowed to wear some of the rings for his King James role on the red carpet.
Speaking to press at the premiere, Tony hopes next Halloween will see “a King James line” with all of the fantastical costumes he got to wear but admitted he had one issue with his outfits.
He confessed: “I was constantly in heels…that was quite challenging,” adding that he’d shared his pain with his female publicist who jokingly responded that he “didn’t know the half of it”.
Shedding light on the more steamy scenes between King James and George Villiers, played by Hollywood heartthrob Nicholas Galitzine, Tony flaunted his cheeky sense of humor claiming he “did my research” by flirting at bars and complimented his costar for being “a decent enough kisser”.
