Outlander star Sam Heughan – best known for playing the Starz drama’s leading man Jamie Fraser – has been inundated with congratulatory messages after announcing an exciting new project away from the show.
With season six right around the corner, Outlander fans have been keen to keep up to date with the show’s leading stars as they eagerly await new episodes. And while some may have been twiddling their thumbs waiting for a Starz release date and the end of ‘Droughtlander’, Jamie Fraser actor Sam Heughan has been working on all-new projects away from the camera. And taking to Twitter on Thursday, Heughan sparked a frenzy when he announced the news.
Heughan had already left fans on the edge of their seats early this week after taking to the social media site.
On Wednesday, he shared a gif of Jamie and Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) from Outlander as his character said: “I need you to trust me.”
Accompanying the gif, Heughan tweeted: “Got something exciting to reveal tomorrow…. [love heart-eyed emoji].”
The following day, Heughan revealed all as he shared a heartfelt statement to announce the latest product added to his Sassenach Spirits range.
“ITS HERE!!!” Heughan excitedly began. “So thrilled and so excited to introduce our latest @SassenachSpirit baby!
“The Sassenach Select. The perfect blend of our cultures and passion, a partnership steeped in tradition, heritage, and a love of good tequila!!!!!”
Explaining what fans can expect from the new product further, Heughan added in a separate tweet: “It’s a collaboration.
“Born out of friendship and discovering excellent spirits. It has zero additives (many do, like glycerin, flavouring and colour). It’s labour intensive and crafted.”

Sassenach Spirits’ latest arrival sees Heughan team up with distiller Antonio Salles for the very first time.
“A couple of years ago, I met and became friends with the brilliant 3rd generation master distiller Tony Salles,” Heughan tweeted.
“We were welcomed into his family and discovered we shared a passion that runs deep. We talked, laughed and explored the Mexican landscape.”
And with so much excitement surrounding the collaboration, it didn’t take long for Heughan’s followers and Outlander fans to share their congratulatory messages – including some familiar faces.
Outlander co-star Balfe replied to Heughan’s announcement: “Muy Chulo!!!!” translating to “Very Cool!!!!”
The show’s official Twitter also got in on the act, tweeting: “Congrats, Sam!!”
Heughan fan @PFancki weighed in: “Well here in Texas my family loves Patron but I have to say love trying new Tequila’s! Going to have to get this one for sure!
“Congrats Sam [heart emoji]. We shall see how tantalizing to the taste buds this will be……..tbc.”
Twitter user @Dumspirospero67 echoed: “Congratulations Sam! Tequila is life.”
While @Sparty67 weighed in: “Congrats Sam- and yes- I officially bought one – that decision took all of 10 seconds.”

Outlander season 6 premieres on Starz in the USA and Starzplay in the UK in March 2022.
