Outlander actor Sam Heughan had jet black hair before he swapped it for Jamie Fraser’s ginger locks, as rediscovered pictures have revealed.

Sam Heughan has been portraying the iconic Highlander Jamie Fraser for a decade, with millions of fans worldwide loving his chemistry with Claire Fraser star Caitriona Balfe.

But there was a time when Heughan wasn’t in the Starz period drama, having previously worked on A Very British Scandal, River City, Doctors and Homeland, just to name a few.

It was back in 2011 that the Scotsman took on an iconic role away from the cameras, starring as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, for the touring show Batman Live.

Resurfaced images show Heughan with a very different look, swapping his blonde hair for a jet black do, especially dyed for the superhero production.

When host Jimmy Fallon presented Heughan with images from the show, he explained: “It’s a stage show—it’s like a Cirque [du Soleil] show—and we went all around the world.

“We did the Staples Center, we did Vegas, all around the world—yeah, it was a lot of fun!”

“He also joked: “I’m not sure if Batman’s ever worn a kilt, has he?”

Fallon questioned if he would ever love to return to the role for a movie and Heughan seemed thrilled at the idea before showing off his deep “Batman voice”.

Outlander returned for its seventh outing in early 2023 with the midseason ending on a major cliffhanger.

Brianna MacKenzie (Sophie Skelton) and Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin), believed Rob Cameron had kidnapped their young son Jemmy and taken him back through the stones.

So reluctantly, Brianna remained in the 1980s with daughter Amanda while Roger went back in time to try and find their son, splitting up the family for the foreseeable.

Elsewhere, Jamie, Claire and Ian (John Bell) had finally arrived back home in Scotland after a long journey across the sea, much to their relief.

The second half of season seven is yet to come out with no official release date revealed.

Outlander will be back for series eight as well but sadly, this will be the time travelling drama’s final ever outing.

And given that Lionsgate+ UK has now shut down, Outlander is temporarily living on Amazon Prime Video’s Channels.

This won’t be forever though so it is unclear exactly where the upcoming episodes are going to be when it’s time for season seven part two and season eight to come out.
