Outlander has finally returned for its sixth season, while a seventh season has also been officially confirmed, so even if the show doesn’t adapt all nine of Diana Gabaldon’s novels (so far), it’s not ending any time soon.

Still, when Digital Spy spoke exclusively to stars Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton, we wanted to know how they would like to see the show end – and how much they know about Roger and Brianna’s future storylines.

Skelton explained that when they started making the show they read all the novels released to that point, but as the show has gone on and changes have been made to the show’s narrative, it can become confusing to remember the differences.

However, “it’s safe to say that Roger and Brianna are still standing”, she said.

“I’m not too concerned about how many books or seasons there are,” Rankin added. “I would just like to finish that story.

“If Diana is saying there’s 10 books, then however they split them up, as long as she has an idea or outline of how she might bring things to a conclusion, I would just like to be around for that and have the satisfaction of finishing the journey of these characters.

“And yes I would have to put up with Sophie for another few years, presumably, I’m willing to do that.”

So what’s the perfect ending for Roger and Brianna, in the eyes of the actors?

“I feel like they need to be back in the future, all cushty, go to the cinema, kids running around, no drama,” Skelton said.

We’ll just have to wait and see on that one!

Outlander season 6 airs on Starz in the US and streams on STARZPLAY in the UK.
