Outlander fans were thrilled to learn their favourite Highlander had scooped another prestigious trophy for his work in and around the highly successful historical drama.

Scottish star Sam Heughan has been even busier than usual over the past year thanks to the release of his bestselling memoir Waypoints. Before he reprises his iconic role as Jamie Fraser in the next season of Outlander, the Starz drama’s leading man took to Instagram to celebrate his successful night at this year’s Esquire Man of the Year awards.

Fans have congratulated Sam on being named Esquire’s International Icon as he celebrated the honour on social media.

His latest post featured the Outlander star giving his speech and celebrating with other famous recipients.

The list of winners also includes Pablo Alboran, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Dani García, Arturo Valls, Angel Martin, Ismael Cruz Cordova, and Rafael Perez-Santamarina.

22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal was named Man of the Year in recognition of the Spanish tennis player’s achievements over the past 12 months.

Sam captioned his post: “Thank you @esquirees, wonderful night celebrating ‘Esquire Man of the Year 2022’.

“Honoured to accept the ‘International Icon’ and celebrate with some incredible people.

Congrats to @rafaelnadal!”

His 3.9 million followers were thrilled to see the Outlander star add yet another award to his growing list of accomplishments.

@samjamie_stillhere replied: “Congratulations Sam. Now you’re an International Man of Mystery too! Well, sort of.”

“What a beautiful, humble speech you gave,” @mriordan.mr5 agreed.

“You really deserved to be called ‘Man of the Year’! (Along with all other Moms who heard your speech – lovely that you thanked your dear Mum) Congratulations!!”

@outlander__forever said: “Congratulations Sam. So well deserved!!! You are a great role model.”

“Congratulations Sam,” @my.english.sassenach said. “I wish all men around the world were as gracious and charitable as you are.

“It would make this world of men much easier to navigate… thank you for being who you are.”

And @samartinson said: “Congratulations! I think I speak for all of your followers in saying we are proud of you! Well deserved for such a humble and gifted person!”

Sam’s Outlander co-star Caitriona Balfe also replied with applause, although Graham McTavish was less than impressed, simply adding, “Oh no.”

Graham is among those who will be returning for Outlander’s highly anticipated seventh season in his iconic role as Dougal MacKenzie.

The series is currently being filmed in Scotland and is hoped to return later this year to pick up from season six’s devastating cliffhanger.

Outlander seasons 1-6 are available on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Prime Video in the UK.
