Peaky Blinders producer has confirmed his next project for the BBC

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed his next project for the BBC.

The show boss finished his hit crime drama earlier this month after six series, though he will be reuniting with the broadcaster in new show Two Tone (which is a working title).

Also set in Birmingham, as well as Coventry, the series focuses on the ska and two-tone scene in the 1970s and early 1980s, following on an extended family and four young people who are drawn to the music genre.

“This is a project that’s literally very close to home and I’m developing characters and themes that are set in the early ’80s but hopefully are very contemporary,” Knight said (via RadioTimes). “Of course, the soundtrack will be sensational.”

Ben Irving, acting director of BBC Drama, added: “Steven has taken his knowledge of this time and place and used it to weave a brilliantly original and characterful drama, set against the musical backdrop of ska and two-tone. We are thrilled to be able to bring this unique piece to viewers on the BBC.”

“Steven’s passion for this project is palpable so I couldn’t be more excited to be making it for BBC One,” executive producer Karen Wilson said. “Set in the West Midlands, against a moment of real cultural and historical progression, it will be compelling, diverse, and will have a rocking soundtrack to boot.”

Two Tone will be in six parts, and is set to begin production later this year.

Of course, Knight isn’t completely done with the world of Peaky Blinders, with the writer working on a spin-off movie to wrap up the story of Tommy Shelby.

He also has others projects coming to the BBC soon including a six-part adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations and SAS: Rogue Heroes, a drama about the creation of the special forces unit during World War II.

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Series 6 will come to Netflix on June 10.
