Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan’s husband has filed for divorce

Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan’s husband has filed for divorce, with the news coming just days after her pregnancy announcement.

On Friday (July 24), the Toni Topaz actress, who married Major League Baseball star Michael Kopech at the start of the year, announced that she is expecting a baby boy.

TMZ has since reported Kopech has filed for divorce, and actually filed the documents on June 19.

The pair had only been married five months at that point, with Vanessa learning of her pregnancy on May 20. She last posted a picture of her and Kopech together on April 30, while wishing him a happy birthday.

A representative for Morgan confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that he is the father.

Kopech’s grounds for divorce have not yet been revealed but speaking previously about the pair’s wedding, Vanessa revealed her intent to spend the rest of their lives together.

She told E! News: “We both knew the first day we met that ‘this is it’ and I’m so excited that today officially starts our forever.

“Today, I vowed to love my best friend for a lifetime and it was a day spent with those we love in a room filled with endless love. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.”

Earlier this year, the actress also revealed herself to be the lowest paid member of the Riverdale cast.

The move prompted an apology from Riverdale boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who pledged to “do better” for her and people of colour in the future.
