Sam Heughan Spotted at Edinburgh Tattoo Ahead of Book Festival Appearance

Outlander star Sam Heughan has been delighting fans in Edinburgh this week after being spotted at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The Scottish actor, best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the hit series, attended the Tattoo’s 75th anniversary show The Heroes Who Made Us on Wednesday.

For Heughan, it was a return to a childhood memory — he first attended the Tattoo back in 1992. This time, he joined the crowds once again to celebrate the spectacle, marking a special milestone for the iconic event.

Heughan was photographed outside Edinburgh Castle and posed alongside Jason Barrett, the chief executive of the Edinburgh Tattoo. His appearance comes just days before his sold-out event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

On Saturday, August 23, Heughan will host a talk about his new release The Cocktail Diaries. Tickets for the session were snapped up quickly by eager fans.

Described as his “love letter” to mixed drinks from around the world, the book offers a personal journey through cocktails, memories, and travel.

The festival’s event description reads:
“Nothing marks a special occasion better than a stunning cocktail, and this event is a special one indeed as Outlander actor, founder of Sassenach Spirits, and local lad Sam Heughan launches his new book, The Cocktail Diaries.

“Journey around the world with Heughan as he shares his favourite cocktails, the stories behind them, and the memories they made. Join us for a truly spirited and intimate evening (and there might even be a wee tipple). Sláinte!”

Meanwhile, the Tattoo continues to run until August 23. This year’s edition looks back on the “heroes” of the event and showcases highlights from its greatest performances across the past seven decades.

At 45, Heughan remains one of Scotland’s most internationally recognized actors. Alongside his role in Outlander, which will conclude with its final season early next year, he has also appeared in the comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018) and the superhero film Bloodshot (2020).
