I have some good news that will hopefully make 2020 just a little more bearable. Pre-production of Riverdale season five has officially started back up again, meaning you finally have something to look forward to.
On Monday, the show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, posted a promo pic for the season on Instagram. “At long last, the offices are open and we are in pre-production on Season 5 of #Riverdale!! 💃🏻❤️🔥👨🏻💻☠️🐍🏆🎟🚀” he wrote.

The photo included a photo of a girl running away from an oncoming 18-wheeler. The girl has blonde hair, so it could be Betty, but it’s hard to tell.
The show’s production initially shut down in March after a team member was in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. Filming was never able to get up and running again and, as a result, season four had to be cut short. Because of that, season five will begin with what was supposed to be the final episodes of season four and will feature the gang’s prom and graduation from Riverdale High. After that, there’s expected to be a time jump a few years into the future.
The last we heard, sources were saying we wouldn’t get Riverdale until 2021, but since production is back up and running and some of those first episodes were already shot, it’s possible we could get the show earlier. The CW did recently announce their fall lineup, however, and Riverdale was not a part of it.
