Squid Game broke records for Netflix once more when it landed on Boxing Day, with its second season racking up 68 million views in its premiere week, blowing by Wednesday’s previous record with 50.1 million views.
The Korean Netflix drama also ended on a massive cliffhanger, leaving many fans wondering when it might return for a third and final season.
Season 2 of Squid Game was packed with plenty of horror and heartbreak but – unlike the show’s debut instalment – it left that fate of many characters unknown.
The second season sees Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) return to the deadly games in the hopes of stopping them for good.
Several new characters are introduced, including expectant mother Jun-hee (Jo Yuri) and failed cryptocurrency influencer Myung-gi (Yim Si-wan).
While the season 2 finale may have left fans with lots of unanswered questions, they will be relieved to know that season 3 has already been confirmed, with Netflix announcing the show’s renewal back in July 2024.
In a statement, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said: “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.”
He also said of the final season: “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
When is the Squid Game season 3 release date?
Netflix has not officially confirmed the release date for Squid Game season 3, but it has been claimed that the date has been accidentally leaked.
While fans knew the third season would be dropping some time in 2025, it has now been reported that it could be coming to Netflix as early as June 27.
It comes after posts began circulating on social media claiming that Netflix had mistakenly released the information early.
While Netflix has not addressed these reports so far, fans will undoubtedly be excited for season 3 to drop.
