Stranger Things star Joe Keery has shared his mixed feelings about the Netflix sci-fi series coming to an end.

The actor has been playing Steve Harrington on Stranger Things since it began in 2016, with the upcoming fifth season being its last.

Speaking to WWD (pre-strikes), Keery talked about the bittersweet nature of saying goodbye but wanting to move on, stating: “It does feel like it’s time. It won’t be easy for it to end. I mean, I owe my whole career to being on that show and all the opportunities that I had since are because of that show.

“So it’s very convoluted. There’s a sense of relief, there’s a sense of sadness. I guess my goal is to just really soak it up as much as I can while we’re doing it, and not take any of it for granted because it’s been an amazing ride with such great people.

“And then once it’s done, move forward and try to just hold on to the joy that we had when we were making it… Everything has a beginning and the middle and an end. It’ll be nice to have the end of this too.”

Over the last year or so, Keery has been busy filming multiple projects, including Fargo season 5, the thriller Cold Storage, and the indie Finalmente L’alba.

“I’m just really focusing in on the things that are exciting and challenging and putting 100 percent of myself into one thing at a time,” he explained.

“I feel like I’ve learned a lot about how to do that. To travel and be on the road and be away from friends and family and still remain focused. It’s been a good year of transformation.”

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
