Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series The Boroughs has added six new cast members.
The new show, which is being developed by Stranger Things bosses Matt and Ross Duffer, will take place in “a seemingly picturesque” retirement community in New Mexico, where a group of unlikely heroes “band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have: time”.
According to Variety, Loki’s Rafael Casal and Young Sheldon star Ed Begley Jr have now joined the cast, along with Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, Dee Wallace and Mousa Hussein Kraish.
Previously announced cast members include Spiderman’s Alfred Molina, Thelma and Louise star Geena Davis and Clemency’s Alfre Woodard. American Horror Story’s Denis O’Hare, The Wire star Clarke Peters and Independence Day’s Bill Pullman will also star.
Sex Education’s Ben Taylor is set to direct The Boroughs and executive produce alongside the Duffer Brothers, while The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’s creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews will serve as showrunners.
“While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching,” the Duffer Brothers previously said in a statement.
“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands.”
Jeff and Will added: “Working alongside the Duffer Brothers (who are pretty good at making shows) and their team has been a dream come true. They bring the perfect balance of heart and horror to our story.”
