If someone mentions “Supernatural” and “Batman,” more often than not, Jensen Ackles’ name comes to mind. He’s voiced The Dark Knight & Bruce Wayne in animated features such as Batman: The Long Halloween & Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earth, nearly donned the cape & cowl for The CW’s Gotham Knights (more on that in a minute), and made it clear that he wouldn’t mind being Batman for the upcoming Andy Muschietti-directed Batman: The Brave and the Bold from DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn & Peter Safran.
But thanks to the Instagram account abqbatmobile (located in Albuquerque, the home of a fully functional replica of the Batmobile from the original Adam West & Burt Ward-starring series), we got a chance to check out Jared Padalecki behind the wheel of the famed crime-fighting machine during this weekend’s Albuquerque Comic Con.
“Well, THIS HAPPENED TODAY! Jared Padalecki!” read the caption to the Instagram post showing Padalecki behind the wheel of Batman’s favorite ride. “‘Sam Winchester’ from SUPERNATURAL! The fun has just begun! Come see us! Albuquerque Comic Con, SATURDAY and SUNDAY!”
Here’s a look at the post – a nice, fun break from some of the news that we’ve had to cover over the past few weeks (as well as a reminder of just how great a convention experience can be) – followed by a look back at what Ackles & Padalecki’s SPN co-star Misha Collins had to share about Ackles almost becoming Batman for the small screen:

Back in March 2023, Collins (Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent/Two-Face) shared with The Flash Podcast that there were talks to have Ackles portray Batman on Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux & Natalie Abrams’ Batman universe-set Gotham Knights series. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to reveal this, but we tried to work it out to have Jensen play Batman on the show,” Collins shared. “It was all kind of teed up, but unfortunately, Jensen was on another show at the time [laughs], and coordinating between two series is challenging. So it didn’t ultimately end up working out, but we tried. Jensen was pretty psyched about the prospect at one point because he does the voice of Batman for the animated movies. It would have been a great tie-in, and I thought it would be super fun too. But unfortunately, that didn’t work out, and I thought it would be super fun too. But unfortunately, that didn’t work out.”
