The Big Bang Theory fans have proved once again that they’re just as adept at fact-checking as the long-running sitcom’s scientist characters, as a new plot hole has been discovered.
After a Reddit user recently pointed out that viewers missed out on a wedding as Raj Koothrappali’s (Kunal Nayyar) sister Priya (Aarti Mann) appeared to quietly get married at some point during the show’s run, another fan has had a different realisation about the CBS comedy.
User cornerboyfrank8 has pointed out on Reddit that Howard’s chest hair isn’t consistent throughout the show, with his wife Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) exposing a potential plot hole.
In episode 7 of the show’s first season, ‘The Dumpling Paradox’ we see Howard wearing nothing but a bath robe having spent the night with Penny (Kaley Cuoco)’s friend Christy and his chest hairs are clearly visible.
But cut to season 4 episode 8, ‘The 21-Second Excitation’, when Howard has begun dating Bernadette and she claims that Howard only has a single solitary chest hair (which is also “really long”, apparently). However from what we’ve seen before that isn’t true.
“In season four episode eight, Bernadette says that Howard has only one chest hair. But in season one episode seven you can see Howard enter the room in a bathrobe, exposing his chest,” the Reddit user posted.
Of course it’s possible that Howard decided to start removing his chest hair before he was with Bernadette but continue letting that single hair grow… although it seems unlikely.
There have actually been other occasions during the show where Howard has exposed his chest too, such as in season 1 episode ‘The Bat Jar Conjecture’ when he rips his shirt off after winning the Physics Bowl and later in season 7 episode ‘The Deception Verification’ which sees Howard and Raj touch each other’s bare chests.
On both occasions he clearly had more than one chest hair – so we might have to accept that this one is a simple plot hole and not a character choice for Howard.
The Reddit thread actually contains several more plot holes that have been spotted, so if you fancy a trawl back through some classic episodes you now have the perfect excuse.
