The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik has spoken of the criticism she regularly faces from fans of Jeopardy!
She’s co-hosted the gameshow’s reboot since last year – alongside 2004’s winning player Ken Jennings – but unfortunately, a great deal of the feedback she receives is stuff she’d rather not read.
In a recent chat with actor Justin Long (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) on her podcast Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, the star revealed that comparisons are often made between herself and Jennings.
“Sometimes I get, ‘We don’t prefer you to Ken,'” she said.
She continued: “Isn’t that wild. Well, it’s probably the only profession that I can think of, or maybe politicians, where people will tell you deeply insulting things but with a big smile.”
“[People will tell you] exactly how they feel,” Bialik added before sharing this example: “Like, ‘I saw you in a magazine. I was very confused. You looked pretty.’
“I get that a lot.”
Back in September 2021, Bialik addressed the fact that her Jeopardy! gig had caused a load of controversy.
“I was a headline on CNN three days in a row,” she told James Corden. “Like, who knew that people were so passionate about who hosts Jeopardy!?
“I mean, I’m just trying to read the clues, you know? Just let me read the clues. The thing about Jeopardy!, we spend our whole lives wanting to be seen and this job is like, people should think the least about me. It’s my job to be the host [and] just read the clues.”
