The first trailer for Fast and Furious star Sung Kang’s directorial debut Shaky Shivers has arrived.
The ’80s-inspired horror comedy follows best friends Lucy (Brooke Markham) and Karen (VyVy Nguyen), who head out on a magic, crazy adventure after Lucy gets bitten by a mysterious animal and becomes convinced that it will turn her into a werewolf.
In the trailer, Lucy and Karen encounter everything from zombies to creepy cults, as they go to battle with a frankly pretty terrifying creature.
Kang, who’s perhaps best known for playing Han Lue in the Fast franchise, stepped behind the camera for the first time to direct the movie from a script written by Andrew McAllister and Aaron Strongoni.
“The whole idea was to make this for old-school horror hounds and for them to share it with their families today,” he said of the film, per Bloody Disgusting.
Brad Miska, Managing Director of Bloody Disgusting/Cinedigm, added: “This campy film transports us back to an era when spooky tales were shared by flashlight during slumber parties.
“Sung Kang’s directorial debut promises a truly unique and thrilling experience for fans. With its eclectic mix of quirky humour, chilling moments and monstrous creatures and a captivating throwback atmosphere, fans are in for one hell of an experience.”
Kang made his return to the Fast franchise in F9, with his character returning from the dead following an online campaign. He reprised the role again in Fast X earlier this year.
Previously addressing a continuity error with his hair, which is short in F9 but long in Fast X, Kang explained to Insider: “The reason I wanted Han’s hair to be short was that he’s in hiding. So if he’s walking around looking like Han it doesn’t really make any sense to the character. You cut his hair, he kind of blends in.”
However, once it was determined that Han’s hair is his “superpower”, it was agreed that the long hair would remain in Fast X and he would tuck it behind his ears to “kind of match” his appearance in F9.
Shaky Shivers arrives in cinemas on September 21.
