The Umbrella Academy season 3 has been given a TV-MA rating.
This surprising but promising change – at least for those who crave harder-edged comic book violence and fruity language – was revealed over on Twitter yesterday (March 15).
Via the TV Parental Guidelines, this new rating (replacing the first two seasons’ TV-14 tag) means Netflix’s series is now officially “unsuitable for children under 17” as it may contain “crude indecent language, explicit sexual activity or graphic violence”.
Responding to this news, fans of The Umbrella Academy seemed unanimously pleased with what it means for the new episodes, which premiere this June.
“OKAYYYY I’M EVEN MORE EXCITED NOW,” posted one person, while two more wrote: “This DEFINITELY has to do [with] the sparrow powers i KNOW IT” and “Allison is gonna have fun. When you think about it, her powers are terrifying!”
Back in November, Ritu Arya who plays Lila Pitts, discussed memorable fan reactions with Digital Spy.
“I love the memes about Diego [Hargreeves, played by David Castañeda]. Someone loves making memes about his character being bald or sticking his head on random men. It tickles me so much.”
On keeping up to speed with the wild theories out there, she said: “Sometimes I do. The Umbrella fans are amazing. It really seems like a positive community online.
“I can’t help it, but I know that it’s not a healthy thing to do to indulge too much in people theorising and talking about the show, reviewing things that you’re in because then you hit a bad comment and there’s your evening gone.”
The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-2 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 3 is due to premiere on June 22.
