Robert Kirkman revealed that fans will be hearing more news about the Walking Dead film starring Rick Grimes very soon.

The Walking Dead has expanded from a comic book into a long-running TV series and several video games. During the virtual Skybound Xpo event, co-creator Robert Kirkman provided an update on the upcoming Walking Dead movie starring Andrew Lincoln reprising his role as Rick Grimes.

“I would say that, if anything, the pandemic is going to make a lot of movies better,” Kirkman said, referring to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. “I think the Rick Grimes movie chief among them, just because we’re getting a lot more time to cook this thing and make sure it’s perfect.”

Kirkman also said that there was “tons of stuff going on behind the scenes” and that fans would hear more in the future. “I don’t want anyone to think that we’re just kind of waiting around for this pandemic to end.”

Lincoln departed The Walking Dead television series after Season. He is set to star in at least three films for the show’s parent network AMC. Danai Gurira is rumored to join Lincoln as the sword-swinging Michonne, who departed the series during Season 10. In addition to The Walking Dead films, Kirkman is producing an animated adaptation of his comic book series Invincible for Amazon Prime.

The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Cooper Andrews and Samantha Morton. The series is currently airing its 10th season Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
