The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has teased what’s next for Henry Cavill’s Geralt now the actor has left the series.
The Superman star is set to make his finale appearance in the role in the upcoming season 3 alongside Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Princess Ciri. According to Hissrich, this new adventure will give Cavill and his own Geralt the “heroic send-off” they deserve.
“Henry has given so much to the show and so we want to honour that appropriately,” the series creator told Entertainment Weekly.
About season 3, which will see Geralt and Yennefer team up to protect and train Ciri, Hissrich explained it will come with a huge change for the titular anti-hero.
“Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri. And to me, it’s the most heroic send-off that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that.”
Hissrich also gave a sneak peek of what’s in store for Liam Hemsworth’s iteration of the character in season 4. Earlier this year, it was announced that the Hunger Games star would take over from Cavill as he exited the show.
“Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season 4,” she said, adding: “He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.”
The Witcher season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, but fans can ease the wait with prequel Blood Origin, expected to drop on Netflix in just a few days.
