Lucifer star Tom Ellis’s strange new series Exploding Kittens is currently trending on Netflix.

Based on the popular card game of the same name, the animated series centres around two conflicting cats who are inhabited by the spirits of God and the Devil.

The synopsis reads: “The eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats.”

Ellis plays Godcat, while Agatha All Along’s Sasheer Zamata voices his rival Devilcat.

Avenue 5’s Suzy Nakamura, The Big Door Prize’s Ally Maki, What We Do in the Shadows’ Mark Proksch and Hunt Club’s Kenny Yates also star.

Exploding Kittens recently landed on the streamer, and has already proved quite popular, ranking fifth in the Top 10 TV programmes list.

If you’re not a Netflix subscriber and fancy checking out the comedy series, you can sign up to the streaming service for £4.99 per month for the standard with ads plan, £10.99 a month for the standard plan or £17.99 a month for the premium plan.

Speaking to Tudum about the series, Ellis revealed how much he enjoyed playing Godcat, saying: “They both have a general disdain for humanity, which is quite fun to play.”

Zamata added: “I usually play very righteous or on-the-right-side-of-history characters, and it’s fun to play the Devil and be a little baddie.”

The Exploding Kittens game debuted in 2015 after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, and has released a few expansions since then. It’s had app versions on smartphones and Nintendo Switch, before a Russian Roulette version launched in 2018.

To accompany the series, Netflix also released a special Good vs Evil game, which features new cards and gameplay. This deck can be combined with any expansion pack for double the entertainment – perfect for family and friends to enjoy!
