Wednesday fans have taken to social media to praise lead stars Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers for their “phenomenal” acting in a special episode of the Netflix series.

Episode six of the murder-mystery teen fantasy saw Ortega’s macabre Wednesday body swap with the cheerful Enid (Myers) after Wednesday’s attempts to regain her psychic ability go wrong.

During, what has been dubbed their ‘Freaky Friday’ episode, Myers and Ortega embody each other’s bodies, right down to the clothes.

Meanwhile, their characters attempt to adopt the other’s persona in order to conceal their body-swapping issue from those who know them best.

The Wednesday fandom regarded the episode as “incredible” on Instagram with one user saying: “Season two, part two exceeded my expectations!

“I couldn’t believe how good Enid played Wednesday and Wednesday played Enid! Genius idea, whoever came up with it.”

Another fan in the same thread added: “Love this episode. It gave me Freaky Friday vibes… One of my favourite episodes.”

A third fan went as far as to say: “Their acting was so phenomenal, they actually gave me whiplash.”

During a press conference in the run-up to the release of part two, both Ortega and Myers denied that the episode was even happening.

Ortega said (via The Independent): “I think that would be a crime. I don’t think it would go down well. I’d rather not.”

Myers added at the time: “I just don’t think I’d do a very good job. I’d like to stick with my Enid.”

However, Wednesday costume designer Mark Sutherland said that the two were very involved in the transformation of their characters.

“We had a lot of discussions with the director and also with the actors because really, what we had to try and do was get inside Wednesday’s head and get inside Enid’s head,” said Sutherland during an exclusive interview with Digital Spy.

“How would Wednesday dress as Enid but without giving it away, because they still have to have a sense of their own character within it.”

He added: “There were a lot of discussions with Jenna and Emma and how they would think about it… Their input was very important to us.”

Wednesday’s other costume designer Colleen Atwood explained further how their knowledge of their characters helped make the process easier.

“It got talked about a lot more when we started doing it,” Atwood told Digital Spy. “Because they’d go, ‘Why would I do that? I’d just be this’. So it became simplified from something that, in the thought process, was probably over-complicated, but in fact, it wasn’t that complex really.”

Sutherland said that the biggest challenge of the episode was “not going too far”.

“I think you have to find a certain balance where it doesn’t look so costumey,” he added. “They have to look like they’re just wearing each other’s clothes.”
