Young Sheldon spoilers follow.
Young Sheldon star Emily Osment has warned fans they may need to bring tissues for the show’s upcoming finale.
The Big Bang Theory spin-off series is due to wrap up after seven seasons tomorrow (May 16), and the actor has suggested it will be an emotional affair in a new interview.
“I can’t wait for what’s next, but I definitely want to give [Young] Sheldon its due,” the Mandy McAllister star told People. “The finale is going to truly break your heart. Make sure you’re sitting down and you have Kleenex.”
The series has had its share of on-screen heartbreak recently, with last week’s episode airing the death of George Cooper Sr (Lance Barber) after suffering a heart attack.
The death didn’t come as a big surprise to fans given we already knew that Sheldon’s father passed away when he was 14, and show boss Steve Holland recently explained why they decided he would die off-screen.
“We already knew that we never wanted to see it on camera,” he told TVLine, “but to deal with the death was always important to us coming to the end of the show.
“It was a question of when we do it. There was some talk that maybe it would have been the finale. He would have died, we would have the funeral, and that would have been the last episode.”
He added: “We thought, ‘Is there a way to do it and still catch people off guard?’ So the thought of doing it not even in the penultimate, but in the antepenultimate episode, might be a way we can still catch them off guard.”
Ahead of the conclusion of Young Sheldon, a new spin-off has been confirmed that will focus on Mandy and Georgie (Montana Jordan), titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
