Julie Plec — creator and showrunner of The CW’s Legacies — has revealed the new job Matthew Davis’ Alaric Saltzman will have in the Vampire Diaries spinoff’s recently-premiered second season.

After being ousted from his position at The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted, Alaric will be the new principal of Mystic Falls High School. He will assume his new post in Season 2’s upcoming second episode, titled, “This Year Will Be Different.”

“Spoiler alert,” Plec told Entertainment Weekly. “We will learn at the top of Episode 2 that he’s the new principal.” A new job at Mystic Falls High was teased for Alaric two weeks ago, when the episode’s official synopsis was released. Only now, however, is it clear what exactly that job is.

Elsewhere in the interview, Plec was asked how exactly the character of Alaric feels about this change. She spoke to that while he would certainly rather still be at The Salvatore School, he does still love teaching regardless.

“Yeah, he’s been booted out of his nest, so for him, returning to a role where he can at least have an impact on the protection and the education of children is important,” Plec explained. “And this allows him to stay close to home, keep an eye on his daughters, and make sure that the town is safe alongside the students at his school.”

Airing Thursdays at 9 pm ET on The CW, Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, Jenny Boyd as Lizzie Saltzman, Kaylee Bryant as Josie Saltzman, Quincy Fouse as Milton Greasley/MG, Aria Shahghasemi as Landon Kirby, Peyton Alex Smith as Rafael Waithe and Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman.
