Ruby Rose announced yesterday (May 19) that she was leaving Batwoman after one season, with The CW show confirming that the lead role will be recast with another LGBTQ+ actress.
Beatriz – who plays Detective Rosa Diaz on the NBC sitcom – reacted to the news on social media, with her tweet picking up 30,000 likes.
“*reads everything about Batwoman,” she posted.
The star then added: “Legit did dye my hair red last month.”
In her statement, Rose said that her decision to step down from the superhero role “[wasn’t] made lightly”.
“I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles,” she added.
Batwoman was picked up for a second season by The CW earlier this year, although the first season had to end early due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine was also renewed and will return for season 8 (season 7 spoilers below).
Speaking about what fans can expect following the season 7 finale as Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta welcomed their first child, series co-creator Dan Goor said: “We’re very conscious, similarly to when we coupled them up, that this is a workplace show.
“While we like doing comedy about them as a romantic item, or as a married couple, or [now] as parents, we primarily do comedy about them working together.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to strike a similar balance, and I think we’ll be conscious of the fact that they have a kid.”
Batwoman airs on The CW in the US and on E4 in the UK.
