Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke could finally be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Her Westeros co-stars Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington are already part of the MCU, and now the Daenerys Targaryen actress is following in their footsteps with a role in one of Marvel’s Disney+ shows.
According to Variety, Clarke is in final talks for a pivotal – but mysterious – role in the Secret Invasion TV show. Her reps have yet to confirm the news.
Clarke will be joining an all-star cast that includes Samuel L Jackson reprising his MCU character Nick Fury, alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Captain Marvel’s Skrull leader Talos.
Newcomers will include Peaky Blinders’ Kingsley Ben-Adir as the main villain as well as Academy Award and BAFTA Film Award winner Olivia Colman.
Secret Invasion will be adapted from a popular Marvel Comics storyline where a rogue faction of the shape-shifting Skrulls covertly replaced many earth superheroes as part of a plan for global domination.
There is no telling yet which Marvel superheroes will appear in Secret Invasion, but the studio has an ambitious slate of upcoming Disney+ shows featuring She-Hulk, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, Loki, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, Ironheart and War Machine on the horizon.
A role in Secret Invasion will be a return to TV two years after Game of Thrones concluded for Clarke. The actress recently gave her blessing to Thrones creator George RR Martin’s plans to launch multiple prequel spin-offs on HBO.
“It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s gonna be whatever it will be, but of course they’re doing more,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
“You can’t create something that big and not have people go, ‘And? What else? This is really good! Let’s do loads more!'”
