Grey’s Anatomy season 18 spoilers follow.
Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington has teased the “amazing” upcoming return of Kate Walsh to the show as Dr Addison Forbes Montgomery.
It was confirmed earlier this month that the long-running ABC medical drama will welcome back Addison for “multiple episodes” in season 18, which kicks off on Thursday (September 30).
Fellow Grey’s actors Luddington, who plays Jo Wilson, and Chris Carmack, who plays Dr Atticus Lincoln, have opened up to ET about Addison’s big return, teasing that she will be getting involved in a major plot when the new season begins.
“She is back and it is kind of like she’s never left before,” Luddington said. “I feel like her presence in scenes is that she kind of owns the hospital. I am like, ‘Oh my god, it is Addison.’
“But I think we can say that she is working on a really amazing case that Jo is desperate to get in on. It’s always possible there is drama.”
Both actors revealed that they hadn’t known about Walsh’s comeback as Addison until they read the script for the first time, with Luddington joking that “everyone geeked out” when they found out.
When the news first broke that Walsh would be returning to the show, the actress said: “I’m so excited to be home again joining Shonda [Rhimes, the show’s creator], Ellen [Pompeo, who plays Dr Meredith Grey], and the rest of the incredible cast. Season 18. Just wait until you see what she has in store for you.”
Addison has been a major character in Grey’s, first arriving at the end of the drama’s first season to make the dramatic revelation that she was Dr Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) estranged wife.
She was a Grey’s regular in seasons two and three, after which she led spin-off show Private Practice for six seasons.
As if the excitement of the returns of Addison and Dr Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) weren’t enough, Luddington also has her eye on a return for another Grey’s alum in the form of Jessica Capshaw, who played Dr Arizona Robbins.
“I was speaking to Capshaw yesterday and I would love to see Arizona come back,” she said. “I just adore her. I think the character is amazing, I think Jessica is amazing. I would love for her to come back and work with Jo now that Jo’s OB. That would be my pick.”
The 18th season of Grey’s will begin on Thursday (September 30) as a two-hour crossover event with spin-off Station 19, with a dramatic car crash and explosion set to rock the wedding of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).
