Three new cast members have joined House of the Dragon for season three.
The second season of the hit Game of Thrones prequel show ended with Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) agreeing to help Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) take King’s Landing, sacrificing her own son, Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), in the process, setting up the vicious conflict to come in season three.
As both sides prepare for battle, The Gold and Trespasses star Tom Cullen has joined the show as Ser Luthor Largent, a knight who, in George RR Martin’s novels, becomes commander of the City Watch of King’s Landing.
Andor actor Joplin Sibtain is set to take on the role of Ser “Bold” Jon Roxton, a knight and the head of House Roxton, while Sandman’s Barry Sloane has joined the show as Ser Adrian Redfort, a knight from House Redfort and a member of Rhaenyra’s Queensguard.
These characters all played a role in the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war set to take place when Aegon II and Rhaenyra battle for the throne following the death of their father, Viserys I (Paddy Considine).
They join the previously announced James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin, and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.
Returning cast members for season three include Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, and Ewan Mitchell.
Other familiar faces will be Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.
Production on the third season has begun, with D’Arcy confirming the news in a clip posted to social media.
In it, they are seen holding a clapperboard while wearing their Rhaenyra Targaryen costume, saying: “House of the Dragon is back in production. Here we are on day one of season three.”
The show has also been renewed for a fourth season, which will officially conclude the series.
