Lucifer Actor Kevin Alejandro Drops Hints About Season 6

Lucifer season 5 ended with a thrilling cliffhanger. But fans can take comfort in knowing the final season is on its way.

Kevin Alejandro, who plays Dan Espinoza on the Netflix show, directed the season 5 finale and will be helming the series’ penultimate episode. Here are some of the juicy hints he dropped about Lucifer season 6.

‘Lucifer’ season 5 ended on a cliffhanger
In the Lucifer season 5 finale, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and his cohorts — Maze (Leslie Ann-Brandt), Amenedial (DB Woodside), Eve (Inbar Lavi), and Chloe Decker (Lauren German) — went head to head with his twin brother Michael and his other angel siblings.

When Michael kills Chloe, Lucifer flies to heaven to save her. Miraculously, he comes back to Earth unscathed, defeats Michael, and claims his title as the new God.

But ‘Lucifer’ season 6 won’t pick up right after the events of the season 5 finale

It would be intriguing to see what happens in the moments following Lucifer’s victory as God. But as Kevin Alejandro suggested in a recent interview with TV Line, when Lucifer returns for season 6, “some time” will have passed. And when talking about directing the series’ penultimate episode, he revealed how epic the finale will be.

“We have a two-part ending, and I had the pleasure of handling the big ‘climax’ of everyone’s evolution of their characters, which was heartbreaking and beautiful,” Alejandro said. “Again, this one was written by Chris Rafferty, who wrote the midseason finale that I directed. So together, we already spoke each other’s language, and man, we knocked it out of the park, I cannot wait for people to see that episode.”

Dan will be back for season 6 of ‘Lucifer’
Initially, season 5 was supposed to mark the end of Lucifer. And Dan’s death was meant to be the end of his character. But when Netflix renewed the series for a sixth and final season, showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich called Alejandro and asked him to reprise the role.

“Joe and Ildy immediately got on the phone with me, to say, ‘Hey, here’s the news. If you still want to be part of us, we know how to do it respectfully, and not change the quality of what we’re creating,’” Alejandro recalled in his chat with TV Line.

“I wanted to be with these relationships and with these people to the very end, and now we weren’t anymore,” he continued. “And Joe and Ildy respected that, and thankfully they wanted me to be a part of it as well.”

“So they found a gentle way to bring me back — not the way people are going to expect him to come back, and maybe not as a huge part of the show, but I got to be there for the end in some capacity. And that felt wonderful, to be able to finish out a full journey.”
