Lucifer spoilers follow.
The finale to season five of Lucifer came with many shocking twists. But with an entirely new season still to come before the end of the series, the showrunners might still have kept some big secrets for the show’s goodbye run.
In a recent interview with TV Line, series boss Joe Henderson addressed the question of whether or not there will be a new character added to the new season’ roster.
“Oh, that’s a good one….” he said, before confirming: “There is a new character in 6 that was not going to be a part of Season 5. A whole new character.”
Since the show was renewed for its sixth season only shortly before the start of season five, the showrunners and writers had to rework the finale they’d planned for the latest season to add a whole season’s worth of added storylines.
While this brought to attention to certain cast members agreeing to have their characters killed off only to then realise they would be missing the final season, Henderson and co-executive producer Ildy Modrovich have confirmed that the new season won’t feel like an elongated version of the finale they’d previously planned.
“It is very much our goodbye season, but as we started to dig into Season 6, we found new story we wouldn’t have told before,” said Henderson.
“I don’t want people to think that Season 6 is almost like an elongated Act VI, because it’s not. It’s its own season. It’s got its own engine.
“There is a story that we didn’t know we would have to tell until we got to the point we got to, and once we got there and looked around, we realized that there was an entire engine for an entire season worth of storytelling that we’re excited about.
“But it is very much a season of saying goodbye to the show we love.”
Modrovich then also teased: “In fact, the main story of Season 6 was not a part of Season 5 at all.”
