Outlander might have wrapped up its seventh season earlier this month, but you can get another dose of Caitríona Balfe on your TV tonight.

Written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, Belfast was released in cinemas in January 2022 in the UK and Ireland. It was the filmmaker’s most personal movie to date, inspired by his own childhood in Northern Ireland.

Balfe stars alongside Jamie Dornan as the parents to nine-year-old Buddy (Jude Hill), as he grows up during The Troubles in Belfast.

If you haven’t seen it yet or fancy a rewatch, Belfast airs tonight at 10pm on BBC Two.

If that’s too late for a movie watch on a Sunday night or if you missed the broadcast, Belfast will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer shortly after its airing on BBC Two.

And if you just can’t wait to watch the movie, you can rent or buy Belfast from the likes of Prime Video and iTunes.

Belfast was a hit with the critics when it was released and stands at an 86% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviews praising it for its “powerful performances and directorial craft”.

It was also nominated for seven Oscars, winning Best Original Screenplay for Branagh, and received six BAFTA nominations, winning Outstanding British Film.

Back in November 2024, Balfe spoke about how filming her final Outlander scene was “so emotional”. “It was an emotional scene anyway, of course, because a lot of them are,” she recalled.

“We’ve had a couple of wraps. I feel like we had the official one and then we had our final kind of pick-ups and that sort of stuff.

“But for our official wrap, we had lots of executives who came in and there was lots of the cast who came to the studio, the whole studio was full and we had a seven-minute scene.”
