The production teams behind hit series Stranger Things and Peaky Blinders are teaming for a new project at Netflix.
An adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, All The Light We Cannot See is a limited series from production company 21 Laps, also behind fantasy series Shadow & Bone.
Free Guy director Shawn Levy – executive producer behind Stranger Things – and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight are attached to the project. Levy will direct all four episodes of the limited series, which will be written by Knight.
Netflix shared the news on its social platforms yesterday (September 22), ahead of principal photography beginning next year.
All The Light We Cannot See takes place between the 1930s and 1940s, when World War II is raging through Europe and France has been invaded by Germany.
Written by American author Anthony Doerr, the novel follows Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a young, blind girl living in Paris with her father, the master locksmith at the Museum of Natural History.
Marie-Laure’s fate intertwines with that of a German orphan, Werner Pfennig. The paths of a teenaged Marie-Laure and Werner, now a soldier, will cross in the occupied territory, as both try to survive the devastation of the conflict.

The streaming platform has also shared that it is still looking for the perfect teen actress who can portray Marie-Laure. Ahead of the series filming in 2022, Netflix has announced a global casting call, with “actresses who are blind or low vision” encouraged to apply.
They must speak fluent English and be available for production next year. The location hasn’t been disclosed yet; it is only known it will take place in a European country.
